Appointment Info
I see clients by appointment Monday through Friday. I do not have evening or weekend appointments. I am in the Pinn Brothers Office Complex. It is a group of brick buildings with a sign out front that says Pinn Brothers. There is a U shaped driveway, with plenty of parking. You can see my building 1475 from the back of the parking lot, but not from the street.

Insurance and Payment
Most PPO, EPO, and POS health insurance plans offer some benefits for mental health. Most often, HMO's will only cover providers in their own network. I am considered an "out-of-network provider". It is a good idea to contact your insurance company and inquire about your mental health "out-of-network benefits". Generally, insurance companies may reimburse anywhere from 50% to 100% percent depending on your plan and deductible. Be sure to ask if you have a deductible, and if you have paid any of it already. I ask that you pay my fee at each visit. I will provide you a receipt to submit to your health insurance company for reimbursement.
If your insurance wants to refer you to someone in their network, be a good consumer! Most therapists have no training in issues related to reproductive mental health. The insurance companies would have you believe everyone is qualified to treat any problem.
How to find the right therapist
When searching for a therapist prenatal or postpartum mood problems, it important to find someone with the right training and experience. These questions will help you when you talk to a prospective therapist. Be a good consumer! Take your time and find someone that you feel comfortable with, who has the skills and training appropriate for your needs.
» Do you have any specific training in prenatal or postpartum depression? I have attended 1 or 2 international perinatal conferences every year, for the past 12 years.
» What model of therapy do you practice? The two kinds of therapy that have been shown to be effective for prenatal and postpartum depression are Cognitive-Behavioral and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. Psychodynamic therapy and psychoanalysis are not appropriate for this type of problem.
» Can you recommend any books on the topic? Any therapist who specializes in an area, such as teens, or couples, or postpartum depression, should easily be able to name 3 or 4 books on the topic. If they cannot, they are not familiar with the topic. Brooke Shields' book is about Brooke, it doesn't count as a book about postpartum depression.
» Do you belong to any organizations related to this specialization? I am the Chair of the Education and Training Committee of Postpartum Support International, and am also an active member of the The North American Society for Psychosocial OB/GYN (I attend annual conferences) and The Marce Society.
